From Thesis to Global Impact

Imagetwin began as a research project at TU Wien, where co-founder Markus Zlabinger explored methods for detecting image integrity issues. Encouraged by feedback from experts like Elisabeth Bik and winning TU Wien’s incubation program, Markus teamed up with Patrick Starke to bring the idea to life.

2020

Where it all began

We launched our first non-commercial pilot with a select group of expert users, initially detecting image duplication within single files.

2021

Founded

After winning the TU Wien incubation program, Imagetwin was founded and began building a scalable research image integrity platform.

2022

Early Traction & Recognition

We launched our commercial pilot, onboarded our first customer, won the Vesalius Innovation Award, and expanded detection capabilities.

2023

Building Industry Trust

We partnered with leading research and publishing technology providers, embedding Imagetwin into established editorial workflows.

2024

Powerful New Capabilities

We introduced advanced detection for Image Duplication, Image Plagiarism, and Image Manipulation. In parallel, we achieved a major milestone with funding from the FFG Basisprogramm and AWS Seed.

2025

AI and Scale

This year marked a leap forward. We launched AI-generated Image Detection, introduced private repositories for confidential screening, and built the largest indexed image database in the industry, with over 150M figures.
